Shoulder Pain

The shoulder joint is a complex, highly mobile joint. Its high mobility leads to a compromise in stability and therefore is very susceptible to injury.

Most commonly, shoulder pain is a result of repetitive movement activities such as swimming, tennis or daily living/work activities that require repeated overhead reaching. Shoulder injuries from sport can result in dislocation, damaged tendons and muscles, leading to a compromised joint capsule. Shoulder pain can also be referred from problems in the neck.

Your physiotherapist can help determine the source of your shoulder pain and provide a treatment plan to minimise pain, promote rehabilitation and strengthen your shoulder. If damage is severe, your physiotherapist will suggest you consult an orthopaedic surgeon.
