What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a profession within the health care industry that is primarily focused on restoring, maintaining and maximising the potential for human movement. If you are experiencing pain from a sports injury, neck pain, back pain, arthritis, any form of muscle or joint pain, physiotherapy can help relieve your pain and get you moving again.

Physiotherapists are trained to assess the underlying cause of your pain and provide effective, drug free treatments using a variety of modalities including joint mobilisations, manipulations, massage and stretches. Electrotherapy modalities such as ultrasound, TENS, interferential and laser are also frequently used to provide pain relief and promote healing. Ice, heat and acupuncture are often used in conjunction with other modalities to optimise the effectiveness of your treatment. Many treatment plans are inclusive of postural re-education and exercise for rehabilitation, strengthening and maintenance.

Physiotherapists can be found working in private practice, GP surgeries, hospitals, sports injury clinics, schools and gyms. Their patient base is wide and varied from infants to the elderly, post operative to neurological rehabilitation, pregnancies to the management of arthritis. In fact, any aches and pains that interfere with daily living.
