Dry Needling

Dry needling is a technique commonly used by physiotherapists to relieve muscle tension and pain. It involves insertion of an acupuncture needle into a myofascial trigger point in a muscle which releases endorphins and increases local blood flow to the area. Dry needling can also be used to stimulate the body’s immune system to improve tissue healing.

Dry needling can be used to treat a variety of conditions including myofascial pain syndrome, neuropathic pain and chronic pain syndromes.

Side effects of dry needling:

Dry needling is generally very safe, however, as with any physiotherapy intervention, some mild side effects may occur. These include drowsiness, minor bleeding or bruising and residual pain around the needle site.

If you would like more information or are wondering if dry needling may be of benefit to you, ask your physiotherapist during your consult.
