Ankle Pain

Ankles, like your knees, are essential for getting around. An injury to your ankle will severely limit your participation in sport and daily living activities.

The most common ankle injury is a sprain. Sprains occur when the ligaments that support the ankle joint are overstretched, causing ligament fibres and small blood vessels to tear. "Rolling" your ankle while walking on uneven ground, misjudging your step or turning too quickly are the most common causes of an ankle sprain.

Your physiotherapist will be able to determine the extent of your injury and provide you with treatment to minimise pain and promote a faster recovery. They will also be able to give you advice and exercises to strengthen your ankle and prevent further sprains.
